Re: Question about adjustability of NNN-BC binding

I had no problem at all with the bindings today. I'm thinking that maybe they don't need any adjustment, so long as I make sure that absolutely no snow gets in there. Yesterday I wasn't paying close attention to the snow-in-binding issue while crossing roads. It is probably a good idea to close the ...

18 Feb 2015

Skied again at Windblown today. Conditions still very good. Black trails groomed, of which the best was East Side Drop.

Question about NNN-BC vs. "BC3 NNN BC"

This is related to my recent question about bindings on used skis that I might want to replace if I can't adjust. Rottefella sells bindings called "BC3 NNN BC". Is this different from what used to be called "NNN-BC"? Or is "BC3" just the name of the model? The boots I w...

Question about adjustability of NNN-BC binding

I recently bought used skis with NNN-BC bindings. The bindings work, but the vertical clearance between the boot bar and <the part of the binding that moves to surround it> is tight. I felt like I needed to raise my heel while inserting the boot into the binding, on the theory that this would help g...

4 Feb 2015

I skied at Windblown yesterday. Conditions were excellent. If I were to go looking for trouble, the bottom of East Side Climb was a little sketchy, with only a few inches of powder over an icy base. But the black trails were in good shape above East View Crossover. The topmost section of the Open Sl...

Wet snow, better than wet rain

Finally, "mixed precipitation" that was mostly snow. Trails remain in good shape, except for small tree limbs here and there. Today, for the first time in several years, I skied the Toll Road, an alpine trail that is (along with its chairlife) open to cross-country skiers. Good conditions ...

Here today, ? tomorrow

I skied today at Mansfield/SMR. Conditions were good to very good. I think all the trails were open. But the forecast for the next 12 hours is another one of these "mixed precipitation" puzzles that we're getting a lot of this season. The good thing is that the rain, which was predicted to...

Microcosm

This past weekend at Craftsbury was an interesting (if not exactly a typical weekend) example of the varied culture of cross-country skiing: I was in Craftsbury with the Ski For Light (blind and visually-impaired) group. Also staying in the same little lodge on Friday night was the Harvard ski team....

Re: VT 2014-2015

I'm hoping to get down to Craftsbury sometime next week - with any luck they'll get some snow by then. Yes. I was just there, Friday-Monday, and, by now, they have gradually accumulated enough snow that the conditions should be good through this coming week. I think they even were able to set (shal...

Article about Craftsbury in Stowe Reporter, 8 Jan 2015

Ex-Olympians find a winning formula By Andrew Nemethy Thursday, January 8, 2015 Dick Dreissigacker and Judy Geer have devoted much of their life to an esoteric world of racing sculls and shells, strokes and oars. They never figured they’d end up being philanthropists, let alone overseeing one of Ve...

Craftsbury 7 Jan 2015: good, but hoping for better

I skied yesterday at Craftsbury. Conditions were generally good, much better than at Mansfield the day before - although I heard that conditions were also good at Trapp's. The difference is that both Craftsbury and Trapp's have PistenBully groomers, while SMR/Mansfield does not. Even at Craftsbury, ...

Still waiting

I skied today at SMR/Mansfield. Conditions were fair. There is a chance of 2-4" snow tomorrow, which would improve things.

Re: Craftsbury

Of course, now that I am NOT skiing there TODAY, they have gotten a (modest) amount of new snow this morning, which ought to be enough to make a noticeable difference.

The big question, though, is with the amount and "mixture" of precipitation that arrives tomorrow ....
