Re: Technique: Why are skate poles longer?

Why does striding require a shorter pole? Because you're not standing up as high when you plant? Because it doesn't have as much torso compression onto each pole plant? I would answer "yes" to both latter questions. Does DP classic when done w/o regard to FIS rules ideally use poles exact...

Re: Elite racers and their gear

Maybe it's also thought that longer skis will show the brand name more in close-ups? Yes, in interviews after the races the competitors are given special pairs of skis and poles with the brand names at face height. Charlotte Kalla, for example, is 161 cm tall and uses "interview poles" th...

Re: Your best explanation of XC skiing?

I think XC skiing is foreign to most Americans because what percentage of Americans live in an area when you have 60-days (just 2-months) of consistent snow cover. Probably less than 2%. How many are within 1-hour drive? Maybe 5%. This is why introducing rollerskiing as a gateway to on snow XC skii...

It came and went several times in December and January, but February and March this far have been great with a steadily increasing amount of snow. We now have around 40 cm compact snow.

Re: 50k results -- Sweden?

Sweden is lacking new young talent. We have Oscar Svensson. Possibly Victor Thorn will become a world elite skier. That's it, really. Sweden will presumably have some very meager results the coming championships. Look at Russia - I've never ever heard of these guys before Pyeongchang. Yes, Russia h...

Re: 50k results -- Sweden?

7th and 28th. What happened to the powerhouse? Marcus Hellner left the Olympics before the 50 km race saying his preparations do not meet the demands of such a race. Calle Halfvarsson has apparent health problems including IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Johan Olsson suspects that at least some of ...

Re: Olympics Women's Team Sprint - final meters

Congratulations to team USA! Stina said before the race that she didn't want to have Jessica with her the last 100 m, and now we know why. Fantastic effort by both Kikkan and Jessica.

Re: Can u believe?!

76 degrees in Nordic Virginia yesterday. A whopping 5 inches of snow of the entire season! 96 inches for the season 3-hours away in WV but their snow is melting fast. Another 70+ day is in the forecast for next week. That is quite high summer temperatures here in Sweden. How long is winter normally...

Compare your R3 skate binding with your classic R4 binding to see if that is the case.

Re: Do we still need tracks?

Watching the women's finals, it seemed liked they were out of the tracks quite a bit. Question - is it easier to DP in or outside of the tracks? Often when Stina Nilsson and her friends and competitors double-pole out of the track instead of in the track it is because the glide is better out of the...

Re: Fun w new skis!

Still confused. That's a pic of front bumpers. It seems like you're saying that skate bindings have both front and rear bumpers. Yes, skate bindings have front and rear bumpers; classic bindings have only front bumpers. I always thought that skate and classic were the same except for stiffness of b...

Re: Importance of the "right" Wax During Olympics!

Let's be honest - maybe 6-8 countries have the waxing budgets to truly be competitive at this level. I think this is part of the reason why nordic skiing will always have a limited audience. A race should NOT be determined by the size of a countries waxing budget. It seems like classic skiing is ev...

Re: Fun w new skis!

But the Nordic Skate link shows a classic binding w rear bumper... Maybe I just need softer bumpers all around? Do you have a link to pic of a Rotte R4 classic w no rear bumper? Those with rear bumpers are for skating. Here are the ones for classic: http://www.nordicskaters.com/products/catalog/xc-...
