Re: Minnesota Finlandia 2013

I' don't know about the skating, but two years ago was an icy roller-coaster. That was my second race. It was about 2F at the start, if I recall. It seemed like the classic track was either pulverized ice or well-glazed snow. My special green didn't kick too well, but others reported that Grip Tape ...

Re: Question on Swix WaxWizard

Maybe it means that the WaxWizard developers didn't run it past the marketing department.

Minnesota Finlandia 2013

weather.com says 2F at 10am rising to 11F by noon; accuweather says 10F rising to 15F.
Folks may need to tweak a bit at the start.

Re: Mora Vasalopet

The forecast had called for temps in the upper 20’s warming to around freezing with fresh snow, and blowing old snow. Up until late the evening before, weather.com called for a rain/snow mix a 11am. I thought of washing some Nikwax waterproofing into my ski clothes, until they changed it to an all-...

Re: City Of Lakes Loppet 2013

For the 24k classic: 2011: 82.73/138.05 minutes (avg. of top5, avg all finishers) 2013: 77.1/133.1 minutes (6.8% and 3.6% faster) I was 6.9% faster in `13, so "par for the course," I guess. For the skate: 2011 skate: 83.6 (top5) 2013 skate: 84.45 (1% slower) Perhaps the ample kick improved...

Re: 50K HYDRATION

I'd say that if you train wearing one, then bring it. Stick with what you're used to doing in training, and you'll enjoy the race.

One thing: I'd suggest trying a 25k before a 50k, if only to help gauge your pace.

Re: City Of Lakes Loppet 2013

How did people find the speed, this year versus previous (not counting last year!)? 2011 Hoigaards Classic had finish time of 83 minutes (average of top 5) in '11, but 77 minutes today, 7% faster. And we can't blame it all on Murray :) . My glide seemed worse this year, even though 2011 had "ma...

Re: City Of Lakes Loppet 2013

For those of us that kick, the snow should be fast, so hardwax will help make the most of the glide.
Temps will be between 20F and 24F for 19 hours leading up-to start.
Maybe straight Blue Extra for kick?

Re: Waxing waxless skis?

Why do you have hairies on a pattern base ski? Try buying children's skis at a swap-meet. They can be downright furry. I agree: I sand them down, and then de-hair. I was just pointing-out that for some rare conditions, people use hairies by themselves for grip; but on waxless, we try to get rid of ...

Re: Waxing waxless skis?

What about hairies? If you're putting easyglide on the fishscales, then I'd think you want to scrape the hairs down with white Scotchbrite. But it's in the kick zone, where many people want hairies.
