New XC Ski resource website

Postby rmattson » Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:49 pm

Since taking over the XC Ski forum I've had this idea rolling around in my head. In 2000 I started a website for a car group. The site is solely a page with categories and related links along with an optional marketplace/classifieds. It was and is still a huge success. Since then I have expanded the code for the site to accept unlimited new domains and topics. I currently have two full sites and am working on three additional sites (including one for XC Ski). It takes just minutes to setup the site and a little time to gather the links. Over the next week or two I'll work on rounding up links to populate the site.

Feel free to stop by now if you like:

I'm not sure if I will enable the classified section. Any opinions? Are there enough used equipment classifieds online for XC Skiing already?

Bookmarked, new link sent.

Lots of potential there. :-)

I've had an idea for a XC site for a while, something different than anything out there now, going to work on it this weekend. Will forward the URL when I'm up and running. Top secret until then. :D

Ok so it took me a lot longer than I first anticipated to get the large portion of the links compiled and setup. Plus life has been rather busy. The site is up now. 150 links. I need some help though. I'm new to this ski thing and I'm not sure I have the categories right. I also have a handful of sites that are yet unnamed and tested. There are probably even a bunch of sites in the wrong categories.

Here is the link again:

Is anyone willing to poke through links on the page and help me out? There is a category called sort and a bunch of links that need to be named yet. Any help would be appreciated. You can post the fixes here or email me at xrender@company23.com.

Any categories wrong?
Any categories missing?
Any links I don't have can be posted here or submit through the site.
Also any input on if a classified section would be worthwhile?

Thanks.

It is a good start.

For the links, the Master Skier page has quite a few of the same links and categories: http://www.masterskier.com/xclinks.asp

With the Ski Areas, it would be helpful to have them broken down by state, province, or country. (The flags after some of the entries is helpful.)

I haven't touched that page in years now. I should probably look to see if it gets used much. It wouldn't take a lot to fill it up.

Great idea, would you like what we have in the UK ? We have some roller ski clubs and a few retailers, also I think there is the odd holiday company though I have not used then as they seem to cater just for adults.
Nice to have a list with the nationality of link on it, I spent ages trying to sort out what was UK once.
