Kick-doublepole declining in popularity and relevance?

Postby JeffOYB » Wed Feb 10, 2016 3:44 pm

I saw a mention of the decline in kick doublepole in some recent xc ski media (Ski Trax? or Master Skier Annual?). I'm surprised. Is it because racers are all DPing everywhere except for steeper uphills when they have to bust into striding?

KDP is nice on gradual uphills or any flats that are soft or draggy.

I'd guess that jillions of cruisers and citizens still do it -- unless only oldtimers are doing it now? Maybe it's relegated to the dustbin right on top of wood-ski techniques as something "so 90's". Or maybe younger skiers are only unaware of it due to lack of contact with in-depth instruction in any form nowadays? (Does an entry-level class get to KDP? How many take a class beyond the entry level, if that?)
