Best late-season spots in US?

Postby Wending » Tue Mar 14, 2017 5:23 pm

We're getting a blizzard right now in Maine, thank goodness, but I know the warm weather and/or rain will come too soon for me as it always does, so I'm planning a mid-April trip. I'm currently looking at Mt. Bachelor in Bend because they claim to have the longest season and frequently ski into May. When I called last week, they had 100 inches of base—presumably at the nordic center because that's the number I called.

Any location suggestions for other late-season skate skiing?

Welcome to the forum!

Considered the Canadian Rockies?

Canmore Nordic Centre (our Olympic/FIS venue)/Banff/Kananaskis is hard to beat any time, let alone in mid-April, and your US dollar goes a long way ($1US = $1.34 CAN). CNC is a 90 minute shuttle from the Calgary airport - the scenic Rockies is worth the trip alone!

CNC (~65k): http://www.tourismcanmore.com/things-to ... dic-centre

-includes a 6.5k loop under lights.

http://skierbob.ca has a dedicated group of volunteers giving daily trail/grooming reports into May.

I think it's common for Bent to have skiing into June. So I think your first choice is a good one.
