any cool new nordic ski movie out there?

Postby JeffOYB » Mon Nov 13, 2017 2:32 pm

So there's Warren Miller -- has he ever included any good XC footage?

Then there's the Canadians of XCZone.tv who made "Unlimited: Oxygen Fed Sport Year Round" featuring XC and a bunch of other fun. Great flick -- maybe 15 years old now?

...Anything else?

Crickets?

yeah they're crazy. pretty fun. probably too macho to be relevant however. i don't know marketing but emphasizing "big air" in anything seems like a dead end. ...but maybe trips to the ER works for sales. seems like there has to be another way... who knows.

What kind of thing were you thinking of?

I don't know about the US/Canadian nordic ski racers but a lot of the guys and girls in Europe do ski jumping as well as racing, at least at the start, and that probably gives them some confidence. I saw Jessie Diggins was doing some some jumps in training this year so it is obviously a part of racing programmes to some extent. The ski agility stuff they do on rollerskis is pretty amazing when you think how difficult they are.

i'm thinking of an updated version of Bill Koch's little feature flick that helped create the US ski boom which had 10X more skis sold than today.

he did a jump in it but it wasn't all about the jumps. he just was having a lot of fun. nothing contrived. he was truly just going out for a ski. pretty much.

the jumps in modern videos aren't relating to Nordic jumping -- actually that would be great to see. i note that ski movie jumping isn't what you'd call sustainable or even doable for normal ppl who don't want to break gear or get hurt. yet Nordic jumping is smooth and easy.

of course by Nordic jumping, i mean any wedge type of ramp placed where there is a downhill landing zone so that landing impact is nil and continues as part of the flow of travel. it can be any size.

If not already posted, nice one from the French Team at Antholz.

I've been there; This road is groomed once a week or so and goes up to a pass to Austria and a small resort there.
(There's no border anymore... Think about Wolrd War One, and its millions killed, and the European Union now, w/o borders.)

If you are ever in Grenoble try the road up to the Charmant som, 6km long, 3km of around 10% which you can ski at a similar pace.

The race is held in the beginning of May. Days just below the arctic circle are already very long then. Here is a map of the race: http://www.fossavatn.com/fossavatn-com/ ... gan-en.jpg
