Traditional ski making in Norway
Here is an interesting video about traditional ski making as practiced in Morgedal, Telemark, Norway. Notice that the ski maker uses a dead and dry pine tree as his raw material for the skis and not birch. The narrator has a nice Norwegian dialect too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbPVqUbcjDY

Thanks, that was both interesting and satisfying to watch.
Re: Traditional ski making in Norway
My father just saw the video and said when he was young his ski was almost exactly the same as in the video with the carved tip and even with the etched stripes, but maybe not surprising as he came from Telemark not far from Morgedal and this was in the 40s and 50s and hand-me-downs so probably a much earlier model. Still quite amazing to think history is so close.
Only difference was that the binding was a metal plate that went through the ski instead of the birch, and this plate was bent up on the side with holes for a leather strap to go over the toes, and one going back around the heel.
