That is really a pity, Jeff. I see you have a pair of Edsbyn Hunter! Is that an NNN BC binding on them? What brands are the other skis?

76 degrees in Nordic Virginia yesterday. A whopping 5 inches of snow of the entire season! 96 inches for the season 3-hours away in WV but their snow is melting fast. Another 70+ day is in the forecast for next week.

That is quite high summer temperatures here in Sweden. How long is winter normally in Nordic Virginia?

Of course, I'd being cute with the term "Nordic Virginia" as there really is no such thing. I'm in Loudoun County, Virginia which is a DC exburb in a region commonly referred to as "Northern Virginia". Here in Loudoun we typically get about 22 inches (56 cm) of snow per season but it's highly variable. Some seasons like the current season we'll get < 10 in, in 2009-10 we received 70+ inches (186cm). Average winter temps (December - early March) is a high around 40F (4 - 5C) and a low around 22F (-6C). Temps are also highly variable. With the right vision, a nordic center with snowmaking could have a 60-80 day season. How hard would it be to cover a 2km loop?

The only nordic center near Wash DC is Whitegrass Touring Center in Canaan Valley, WV. They do not have snowmaking but avg. 160 inches per season. Still, the snow there is highly variable and its a 3-hr drive.

Dave -- have you ever tried going up to the Tug Hill Plateau area in New York? It is about an hour north of Syracuse and that area averages around 300 inches of snow every year. I make and annual pilgrimage up there and have never been skunked for lack of snow. It is about a 5 hour drive for me living near Philadelphia. A great place to stay is the "Steelhead Fishing Lodge" which is crazy inexpensive, and serves home cooked meals as part of the stay. You can ski right across the street in some large open fields(not groomed) and also go to Osceola Nordic Center which has great groomed trails and you could also go to Winonna Forest that has groomed trails(volunteers groom).

Nice people up there and beats waiting on a pile of snow in Northern Virginia or for that matter Southeast Pennsylvania -- stay healthy and oh by the way, I did buy a Concept2 Skierg and it is seeing lots of use at the house. Even my wife is using it!!

The Skierg is a secret weapon and using it while watching the olympics makes the time fly!
