Norway outlaws fluoride products from junior competition (<16 yr olds)

For reasons of health and environment but also to eliminate the class difference between the haves and have-nots since these products are typically very pricey.

It's done even though it's virtually impossible to check if fluoride is used.

A good step IMO. XC is already too costly as it is, and effect of fluoride on health is very real.

This been a gentleman's agreement in New England for a couple years. They do allow high end waxes for the qualifying and regional meets. I believe it's a good policy and eliminates potential conflict on some teams. Some teams may have enough Flouride wax but not enough for the whole team. Does the new skier who is still building technique "need" the good wax? Should the coach spend limited resources to wax up the social skier who may be competitive but doesn't desire being on the podium?

I don't know how effective it's been since it is almost impossible to enforce. I'm sure there is a parent (or 2) who makes sure his/her kid has the best wax all the time.
