sil_val_xc here. Long time skier in the Sierra Nevadas, starting on pine tar and wood. Now it's mostly resort skiing on plastic skis when there's snow, but I haven't committed to skating. I'm trying to catch up on the gear. Oooh, my new classic boots just showed up!
