Postby mblock » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:25 pm

Straight from the County Parks website:

Trail Condition Report as of Friday, December 11, 2009, at 2:45 p.m.:

All 30k of trail have been groomed for skating skiing and with tracks set, including the Alps. There is a 2-3" base. In general trails are in good condition but there are some wind swept, scattered bare spots. The lights are set to go on the lighted loop at dark.

The Nine Mile Ski Chalet will open for the season on Monday, December 14, at 9 a.m.

There is an antlerless firearm deer season that includes Nine Mile County Forest Recreation Area from Thursday, December 10 through Sunday, December 14, 2009.

Skied Nine Mile today (12/31). All in all I was impressed by what the groomers had accomplished with what they were dealt with last weekend. Some of the classic tracks were fairly shallow and washed out in high traffic areas but other spots were great. The snow itself was scratchy but fast. My guess is that unless they get a chance to rework the classic tracks they'll be showing their use by Sunday night but the skaters should have fun conditions all weekend.

Is that the trail or the highway?

The last picture is the main 2-way "highway" at the start (or end) of the trail system. There's even another trail to the left of the fence. I've been skiing out there this week, and conditions are great! Most of the trails look more like pictures 3 & 4.

Did the nightski thing last night. Trails were a bit shallow and glazed but still skiable with hard wax. What a resource to have a few miles from our house.

The couple of inches of slow, fresh snow should groom up into fantastic trail conditions for the rest of the week.
