MN - Elm Creek

Postby E365 » Wed Mar 14, 2007 10:31 am

Wed. 14 March 2007. 9:30am - 10:30am. Skate.

Still plenty of snow, and freshly groomed. The temps never got below freezing last night, so it was still a bit soft, although the snow was reasonably fast. The uphills really get chewed up fast, even with a small number of people skiing. The snow is very dirty.

Temps later this week are supposed to be well below freezing, so early morning skiing should be super fast. Hopefully they will continue to groom for a long while.

3 inches of wet heavy powder over a slightly soggy base. This will set up well once it's been groomed, but right now, things are running on the slow side. Conditions were similiar to a March snowfall. I'm guessing the grooming was done before the snow started to fly as the only visible tracks were skier set.

I stayed to the Valley/Thicket trails, but heard from others that conditions on the Lake trail were similar. No-one seemed to be complaining about coverage anywhere, any thin spots from the recent warm up were either invisible, or had been dealt with.

It's open for 2008-2009!

I hit the trail at about 8pm last night (24 Nov. 2008). It's just a short little loop now, but how can I complain? :) Pretty good corduroy actually!

I was there last night too, about 5pm-6:30pm. The track was already glazed!

17 Nov. 2011...

Anyone know if they are making snow at Elm Creek yet? I assume (hope) so; they are making it like crazy at Hyland downhill the last couple days. They are still going at 1pm!!

E365, I don't know about Elm Creek, but Ma Nature made snow here a couple of days ago and we are skiing, classic waxless rock skis on the flats....

Still just the small 1km loop but there are LARGE snow piles and numerous guns blazing on the remainder of the valley (snowmaking) loop. I'd expect more to open within a couple days.

Tuesday, 20 Dec. 2011. 11:50am.

Despite what the latest trail report says on skinnyski.com, the final south doughnut is NOT open. Looks like it is being groomed right now though.
