Wasilla and Talkeetna trails
Does anyone have recommendations for skating or classic trails in Wasilla or Talkeetna? Will be passing through both towns this weekend and am unsure of where conditions are most likely to be best. Thanks.
So this is what we found...
On Saturday, swung by the Colony High Trails. There was a knocked over sign declaring the system closed, and with good reason. What happened to all of the snow in Wasilla? Instead of skiing we bought bagels just down the road and pointed the car north.
Stopped in Trapper Creek and asked at the big blue roadhouse about groomed trails in the area. We were pointed towards the community center. The trail was nice, albeit with some snow machine traffic apparently ignoring the "ski only" signs. Snow was crusty, but decent skiing. Fast hills.
Next day skied on the Su Valley loop behind the high school. Gorgeous day with mountain views. Snow had been groomed up all nice and pretty like for a race the day before. W did three laps and called it good.

sorry about not checking this board lately mate--I ski chugiak and ANC primarily. I could have given some assistance before you hit the area. hotlines, web site, etc.
Colony HS is usually really good for skate or classic. Did you hit the area right after the warm spell and high winds?
I forget when that was exactly earlier this month.
Good thing you found some nice skiing anyway!
