Switzerland - Adeboden

Postby Phil » Sat Jun 06, 2009 3:22 am

The past winter was fantastic. we haven't had so much snow since maybe 10 years. so the season began in November and lasted until End of April.

Adelboden has 4 cross country ski tracks, all for kick and skating, although on the kick track you'll always have to deal with slower cross country walkers. and there's only one track.

the first one is called "Boden-Loipe leicht" and is an easy track with only slight ascending slope and two curvy downhills (beginners will have something to do here). its length is 2 km. From mid-December until February this track will be illuminated for night cross country skiing every Monday and Wednesday 6pm to 9 pm. great idea!

the second run is the lengthier "Boden-Loipe". It's medium to heavy with some steep climbs and one or two hairy downhills. it is 7 km in length and can be added to the "Boden-Loipe leicht" to have a 10 km run.

the third is the "Loipe Unterbirg". This is a tough one with lots of climbs. it is quite narrow as well. it's suited for the athletic runner who really can handle his skis. the lenght is 7.5 km and it can be added to the "Boden-Loipe leicht" and to the "Boden Loipe" (so you'll have a 16.5 km run).

these three tracks are on 1400 m and so the season there can be quite short. in the past winters it was sometimes even impossible to prepare the tracks. there is plenty of parking space at the start.

the fourth is the "Laegerloipe" and this one is situated on the Enstligenalp, an elevated plain on 2000 m to be reached with an aerial cablecar. it has a snow guarantee from around November to End of April and is therefor a very good choice. and the situation of the tracks is awesome. mountains of 3000 - 4000 m are surrounding it. the track is 5.5 km in length and it is a tough one with some steep, hard climbs and one extremly fast downhill section. I love this track. it's just always quite a challenge.
there happend to be a smaller "Sonnenloipe" with 2.5 km in length, but this hasn't been opened last season.

all the tracks are surrounded by one or more Restaurants for refreshment and food.

a day card is 5 Euro, a weekly card is 22 Euro. the cable-car to the Engstligenalp is 14 Euro.

here's the link to the Adelboden cross country skiing: http://www.adelboden.ch/en/navpage.cfm?category=WinterAB&subcat=WintersportAB&id=22092

hope you enjoy it and maybe we'll meet sometimes on the tracks!

On Monday and Wednesday evening the 2km run is illuminated and open. It's fun.
