Solden, Austria

Postby cross-learner » Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:44 am

I will go to Solden, Austria in November learn to xc.
Because I want to book the flight, I will also book the hotel.
I've looked for ski hire shops and found Brugger ... -brugger-2
It seam that this shop is the nearest to the tracks ... index.html
Can anybody tell me something about XC in Solden?
Does anybody know a good hire shop?
Can anybody recommend a hotel (with spa will be preferred)?

I haven't been to Solden, but it has a reputation as a fairly down-market alpine resort with lots of wild apres ski. That doesn't make it bad, but it's a place that a lot of people go to ski who care more about partying than skiing.

Having said that, I have no idea what the xc is like there.

I don't think the village is terribly high. There's alpine skiing on a glacier, but I'd be concerned about going there to xc ski in November. There's a pretty good chance you'll end up not having any snow to ski on.

If you haven't booked yet, you may want to reconsider either your timing or your location. If you must go in November, the Dachstein glacier has a large trail network. A lot of national teams to summer training there. The Stubai glacier has a short trail, but it's not worthwhile. Kuhtai near Innsbruck is also quite high.

Best idea would probably be to wait until the last minute before booking. At that time of year, you won't have any trouble finding a place to stay last minute.
