80 year old car speed record finally broken

Postby Neuro » Fri Nov 10, 2017 7:31 am

The Koenigsegg car just beat the flying 1000 meters at an average speed at 445,54 kph (276.9 mph), but the staggering part is the record from 1938 that stood so long: Mercedes-Benz W125 Rekordwagen (750 bhp) of 432.7 km/h (268 mph), driven by Rudolf Caracciola. That speed in 1938 with a 'normal' engine (no rocket etc) on a regular road is really mindblowing, as was the guts of the driver.. Image

The Silver Arrow's (MB and Auto Union) may still hold the autobahn speed record. Imagine traveling at 248mph in 1930's tire technology!

I know, although they had all the answers to the car already with 750 hp and aero as good as it gets, so maybe the tires were on that level too.
