Note that the Salomon use synthetic material for their skins so that's why one can use petroleum based cleaners like this. Not sure that's advisable on mohair skins.
But maybe synthetic gives better glide untreated, as Skinstad won the race without having touched the skins in any way.
Looks like synthetic skins is a bit cheaper to run.

Correction to that, Salamon has now checked more, and it turns out it's actually goat hair.

Oh I see. I thought it was from sheep.

Had to smile going in to the shop today and see Swix has a blue, red and purple (cold, warm, zero) impregnation for skins. Then there's of course the skin care, skin cleaner, and skin cleaner pro products.
Of course there might be marginal gains to be had with the differing waxes, but no way I'm going to buy wax for wax-less skis and change them according to conditions. Might as well have normal wax skis then.

Ha, ha, ha! That seems like a desperate move by Swix.

I agree with Magnus! I found a product from Vaughti to clean skins. They claim their skin care product contains no aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon solvents that can lead to detachment of the skin strip from the base of the ski. $16 in the USA.

Good point about solvents loosening the skins, I see a shop here also recommends against normal skin clean for this reason.
Re: Cleaning and Maintenance of SkinTec Skis?
I used my Atomic Redster Skintecs for about 6 days of skiing last winter. A few days early in the season at West Yellowstone when conditions were icy or there was new snow above freezing, then a few more stays in wet sloppy snow at Izaak Walton Inn and another day at Swedetown, again when things were icy just before the cancelled Birkie. After last summer's storage I cleaned them with the Vauhti product and didn't notice any "dirt" in the cleaning cloth. Before skiing yesterday in new snow at 34F I put on some of Vauhti's skin HF Skin Ski Care. No icing. Good grip. For glide I used Vauhti's LF Mid liquid glide for a nice smooth glide on a day when the snow was somewhat sticky.
BTW, the Skintec;s are heavier than the newer racing skins but they do make a nice training ski when conditions warrant.

Slightly OT and maybe more for this thread, but what's your take on grip generally?
