walking sole accessory for ski boot?

Postby JeffOYB » Mon Jan 16, 2017 10:10 am

walking sole accessory for ski boot? Alpina Skin / RD ... hmmm the graphics maybe should be read as Skinord.

I see a pic of what looks like an add-on walking or running sole for a ski boot. I've often thought it would be neat to merge a few functions of our outdoor footwear.

is it mostly just to keep snow from clogging the binding? it might be neat to have an actual running / traction add-on sole.

The idea of protection for ski boots is a good idea for many locations. To reach the ski trailhead at the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, Montana skiers have to walk over the bridge across the main lines railroad tracks. The bridge has a steel grating that can chew up ski boot if one is not careful. I cover my ski boots with a pair of low cut rubber galoshes. Once at the trailhead I remove them and leave them there. After skiing I put them back on for the walk across the bridge.

That is very clever of you, Ralph. The Alpina product depicted is essentially a galosh. It is still under development and I think it should be lower cut. The first prototype I saw had no zipper.

I use some old totes (for dress shoes) that are about 1" high. Kept me upright many times--and save wear 'n tear on my boots.

I use galoshes too but look hideous so wouldn't mind a proper overshoe. About time something appropriate came on the market. Have been looking for it.

Jure Oresnik at Alpina has just informed me that the galoshes are for sale in Norway and Sweden. Skiers in other countries should check with their distributors found at http://www.alpinasports.com/locations/

The boots are one size more than normal and the galoshes one size more than that again and pointed as well. I see the looks on people's faces on my way to the woods. Once in the woods they are off and then I'm not in "multi colored Lycra".. ;)
