NSI detents in Rossi are spaced diff from Rotte... BAD!

Postby JeffOYB » Sun Jan 29, 2017 7:25 pm

So I have a pair of Rossi NIS bindings and a pair of Rotte NIS bindings. They should both clip onto any NIS plate, right?

I have white skis and the Rotte bindings are white so I just went to slide them onto the plates. Umm, the 2 detents that let you adjust the fore-aft placement of the bindings do NOT fit into any of the slots! They are off by about 1/16". Crazy!

I have a pair of black Rossi bindings that WILL slide onto and clip into the detents.

Does anyone know if these bindings are ever meant to be incompatible? I can't imagine they are. I must have a bogus set.

Frustrating! I want those white bindings on my white skis!

Are they the white bindings that don't use a tool?

Jeff, can you post some pictures of the problem?

Here are a couple pics.

(Well, I will try to add pics. I don't see how. I'll try to get them to display below. I see buttons to add "Img" but they just give html code brackets. Then I see an attachment button below but it doesn't say if or where it will attach anything. I'll just post and see what happens. Oh, I see a 'display inline' option. Will try that.)

I measured the detents.

The Rotte retrofit plate has detents spaced 86.5 mm apart.

The Rotte bindings have notches spaced 87 mm apart -- they will NOT fit the Rotte plates.

The Rossi bindings have notches 86 mm apart -- they fit the plates.

I measured the distance between the slots on my Rottefella Xcelerator binding which I purchased last year. That distance was 84 mm. That distance matches the distance between slots in the NIS plate mounted on my Fischer skis purchased in November 2015 and another pair purchased in November 2016.

Another point that may play into this problem of fit is that the NIS plate mounted on skis has smaller slots closer together to allow for finer adjustment of the bindings.

On a retrofit plate adjustments in binding location can be made a 0, +2 and -2.
On an NIS plate mounted on my skis adjustments to the binding location can be made in one step intervals (+3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2 and -3).

I'm wondering if there have been slight binding and plate modifications over the years that make some bindings incompatible with some retrofit or NIS plates.
