DIY skin skis?

Post by JeffOYB » Thu May 03, 2018 10:46 am

i haven't studied or used skins yet. my friend just got a pair. he says the skin is NOT recessed into the base. he says you can buy replacement skins and that they are just stuck to the base. so couldn't we make our own? maybe they'd prefer klister flex.

my group is interested in them for tour skis -- like 50-70mm wide. skin skis are now only available up to about 52mm.

are there tour skis with stiff klister type cambers? i recall only Atomic or Alpina having a "plus" camber ski for heavier skiers -- maybe in 205 length. it wd be neat if there was a stiff range of touring skis for various lengths. anyone know?

What kind of skin ski were they? Unless it's a removable skin like the one Madshus sells they are absolutely recessed into the base and if you just stuck one to the top of a ski base it will come off and you will be out $40-60.
