SkiMo videos from Catamount area...

Postby JeffOYB » Tue Nov 13, 2018 5:27 pm

Someone posted about skimo in the Off Topic but really it's not. It's a cool thing. Said there's a series on Catamount Trail. I looked it up and found this series on Green Mountain Bolton Valley. Several cute videos.

I'm surprised how much glide you get with the skins on. I always assumed the skis didn't slide at all with the skins on but you can clearly see good amounts of glide.

apparently this is a hot new ski sport. alpine-touring gear is ruling but it's getting lighter and lighter and more expensive even than it was -- and it was the most pricey ski scene. i hear that ultramarathon runners are getting into it! like it's not alpine skiers per se who are doing it. it kinda seems like nnn-BC and Rossi x10 boots on something like a BC 90 ski might work.

...i thought i saw someone skating up using a.t. skis, rather than striding in one of those vids. but also they seemed to pick diff transition spots. some were carrying speed into the uphill a bit. so who knows if the skater kept going.
