Birkie: does Classic wave start first?

Post by JeffOYB » Thu Oct 18, 2018 8:46 am

Do the classic skiers start before the skaters? And so do the skaters end up passing most of the striders? ...Do the styles mix well? I'd think a better strider might have a similar pace to a lower-ranked skater.

Update: answered my own question. Googled and found they list the schedule. They interweave the techniques. That's kind of neat! I hope it works well! For each wave it's first classic then skate. Every 5 mins another wave starts, alternating technique.

For the first half of the race, the classic race has a separate course. When I was finishing about 100th in the skate race, we’d catch the leaders of the classic before Mosquito Brook. No problem with the two techniques meshing, but maybe it’s more of a problem further back in the race. (I.e. with skaters killing the classic tracks.)
