Anyone Thinking of Skiing both the Korte and Birkie?

Postby Montana » Sun Mar 20, 2016 11:24 am

It's now official. The Korteloppet will be on Friday and the Birkie on Saturday in 2017. The Birkie foundation also confirmed that when registration opens on May 2 anyone can sign up for both races.

Anyone planning on giving it a try?

I'm planning to ski the Prince Haakon with family and classic Birkie alone (well, with several thousand other nuts who didn't learn anything from last year's slush). It'll be my kids' first Birkie event, and I was planning to skip the Birkie to join them... but now I won't have to.

I haven't heard anyone talk about doing both races, but then again, I haven' t really talked to anyone about the Birkie (except getting kicked out of the top 200). I have one friend who has been pleading for a Sat classic and Sun skate Birkie. He'll be a good bet for both.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

It looks like both the Korte and Birkie are going to fill, so the worries about people not skiing the Korte seems unfounded. From the Birkie point of view, I think the change is a success. One concern would be needing two days of volunteers (rather than one).
