Not much DPing in Mustair!

Whew, it's hard to make 'em work in a Mass Start. Yeah, they winnowed down to a front dozen at the end but it has a conservative feel. I hopped forward thru the vid and noticed one attack, by the winner, the winning move, a quarter mile from finish. And that was it.

A lot of turns in this course and quite a few drops. I still think they could make it more interesting. I'm not sure how. Apparently a course has to be fairly wide. ...But cyclocross does also and that never limits its awesomeness. This Mustair course is on the right track, though.

But no CHICANE that I saw. That is a basic feature -- to turn from one side to another is way fun and is the essence of skiing, eh? Might have had some effect on play -- when going abreast, the insiders become the outsiders.

They had a whoop-de-doo section that had no affect. They should include features that challenge and might affect outcomes. Also where there are different options/lines. It kinda seems that they let what's easiest for machines determine the course. We don't want skicross but some air or momentum is fine -- downhill whoops. Or whoops set at angles to each other to make an S-ing series.

Here is the race commented in the language the civilized world universally speaks:

So the winning russkie somehow managed to trick the anti-doping agency better than his DQd comrades? How come?
As far as DPing - the ones using it managed to hang on with the 'diagonal peleton' up to the first (mole)hill on the course.

I believe the trick is being played on Legkov, Belov and Vylegzhanin.

As always, the evil capitalists conspiring against the Holy Mother Russia.
Fresh-faced boys from Siberia were winning powered solely by kartoshki and thoughts of Lenin...

Ha, ha, ha! Not many Russians think of the mass murderer Lenin as an inspiration.

No, instead they admire the mega-mass murderer Stalin as a "great leader".

Is that true for Russian skiers?
