Johaug is back

Postby trotro » Wed May 30, 2018 6:22 am

Therese Johaug was in a class of her own winning the 10 km long Forney Cup race on Thursday. Johaug participated in her first proper competition after she returned from a 18 month doping ban. She ran at 33.36 and was 1.31 minutes ahead of the national team colleague Østberg.

Its amazing to me what great runners these nordic skiers are! 33:36 is a great 10k time! She could run for most D1 college XC teams in the U.S.

I agree. I wonder what Therese could do in a 10 000 m track race.

What does D1 mean here?

D1 = division 1 = largest universities and the best competition for college athletics.

With Bjørgen retired and Kalla's motivation questionable after the Olympic season, looks like Johaug will clean the table next season, if not the following too..

It will be interesting to see the reception she'll get and whether this will affect her motivation beyond the 'revenge' comeback, but Kalla has already come to train with her on summer snow in Sognefjell so at least the colleagues look to be positive.

Summer training at Sognefjell Image

She got beat in a summer rollerskiing event (Oslo Ski Show) by Haga and Østberg, but these things depends on training cycle etc.

What's interesting is that she says being out for 2 years and she can tell her snow skis are not good enough any more after trying Bjørgen's latest. (Bjørgen said one of the hardest part of retiring was giving up her ski set)

Holmenkollen? Did you see the rain? (still at least she won't need sunscreen under the Oslo skies).

Crazy fast on the descent. Not many spectators.

Let's hope it doesn't rain for the Blink this year. It will be good seeing Johaug back losing her cool with the runners!

Expect her to smash them all up Lysebotn. Climbing always was her thing, being light.
