Who'd ever believed Neuner would podium, in an individual, while being 1'22.8 off the skiing pace?
And guess to whom...

Darya's star it not rising.

It's shooting.

Extra unique was that Darya actually started a minute behind her, and finished well in front. No penalty loops, so Neuner must have been very aware of it happening. She took fewer missed though, which is what individual is all about. Both of my princesses were winners in their own way.

I don't know if the ironic play on words was intended. It seems to me that Darya's shooting is keeping her star off the top step this year.

I haven't taken the time to review the "run" ranking data for the previous events this year, but my impression is that Darya is the superior skier more often than not. Her shooting is not where it needs to be to win the overall.

In non-English languages, "pun" is less of a mention as far as I know, and English isn't my mother's tongue.
Indeed, her shooting is her obvious weak point. As it used to be for Neuner, and at times still in, in extremis. We have to keep in mind that her shooting coach got a false start to his Belarus campaign, having to deal with cancer. Hopefully he'll be able to get Darya mentally in check over the coming months and years. Darya is just of Lars Berger levels in termms off skiing. Possibly above it already. A talent like you'll seldom see it. Neuner's engine is likely bigger, but she is bound to lose a bit off effficiency here and there with her powerful style.

In yesterday's pursuit, Lena was in the lead and in the standing shoot took on Lane 2's (Tora Berger's) target. Tora lost precious time, eventually moved up to lane 4, and still got only 2 penalties herself. Lena did 4 laps, as she got one of her own targets as well.
Luckily, Berger still won comfortably. She might even halve just stayed in lane 2 and say ThankYou, reducing her required shots by 3 to take the 5 targets to win by a country mile. She's cool, but not that cool.

What's wrong with Lena, though? melt-down in Oberhof relay, and now this. She got the fastest ski time though, she's physically getting into shape.

That was fun!

Speaking of Andrea, she was a DNS in today's sprint ... hope she's OK and back in the game for the Mass Start and Relay.

Antholz, Italy, today.
Having started 30s later in the Sprint, Darya was overtaking by Lena due to one penalty extra. They skied together on the last loop, and took a lot of time out of Makarainen together. Awesome speed round the stadium, fighting for the line as if it were a pursuit.

Sit down interview about retirement.

"I have plans."

:-(

:prayer:

So, what do you think her plans are??? I'm guessing school. For what, though, I haven't a clue.
