Yes, unfortunately it has happened a few times. I mentioned him in the other thread, but not by name.

But I think the situation in international cycling was quite different from in skiing, with pro teams living and competing abroad.

I picked that up this am on Steephill.tv's Lance's doping fallout.

UCI/Hein Verbruggen needed a white knight when the sponsors disappeared after the Festina scandal of '98, and were more than happy to ignore lance's obvious doping. US Postal's immunity spurred drug use throughout the peleton, not the contrary, which is the current spin or "prolefeed" from the lance camp. Someone like Thor Hushovd who chose to race for a zero-tolerance French team like Crédit Agricole during the 2000's probably won't have anything to confess to Oprah (let's hope).

Should be interesting to see if any skier's names emerge from the Operation Puerto trial (Dr. Fuentes is now finally willing to name names).
